Governor Jim Doyle today announced that a $132,150 Transportation Economic Assistance (TEA) grant has been awarded to Marathon County.
The award provides the state’s contribution toward helping support Miltrim Farms Incorporated’s efforts to directly and indirectly create and retain 92 jobs in the community.
“Investing in quality transportation is vital for businesses that are looking to expand in Wisconsin,” Governor Doyle said. “By providing these funds, we are helping keep quality jobs here in Wisconsin while improving road access to Miltrim Farms.”
The $132,150 grant covers 50 percent of the cost of designing and repaving Marathon County Highway M to improve access to the operation’s new facilities in the town of Johnson. Marathon County is contributing $132,150 to meet the local matching fund requirements of the program. The transportation improvement project has a total cost of $264,300.
Miltrim Farms, Incorporated is investing $4.5 million to expand its dairy operations, doubling its herd size from 1,800 to 3,600 cows; adding waste treatment facilities; constructing an on-site manure digester; upgrading waste separation and storm water control systems; and building a new milking parlor.
As a result of the expansion, nearly $3.8 million in annual wages will remain in Wisconsin.
