Labor Day Activities

The skies over Merrill will be bright with a celebration of light, a fireworks display will be at the MARC on Sunday, September 5th, at dusk.  This display will be in coordination with the city’s Labor Day Celebration.  The September 5th display is a rain date from July 4th.

Then on Monday, the Labor Day parade will be held.  The route is a bit shorter this year, due to the construction.  Labor Day Parade line up staging area will be moved to the Weinbrenner Parking Lot on Polk Street. The route will begin at the intersection of Polk Street and 1st Street – continue north onto East Second Street and proceed east on East Second Street to Mill Street. Then south on Mill Street to East Main Street, east on East Main Street and finish at the intersection of East Main Street and Center Avenue. The route will finish short at this location to allow traffic to disperse safely along Center Avenue due to the ongoing road construction.  The parade line up and start time will be the same – line up at 9:00 am and the parade will begin at 10:00 a.m.

Habitat for Humanity is gearing up for their annual auction at the fair grounds following Monday’s Labor Day Parade.  The Merrill Habitat was unable to build a home this year due to low funds, which is why the Labor Day Auction is so important to the organization. Harry Wallace with the Merrill Habitat for Humanity says it’s not too late to make a donation for the auction. Donations to Habitat for Humanity are tax deductible.  You can call Harry at 715-536-4477 with any questions.  Habitat will also have a raffle on Labor Day, with a queen size quilt as the top prize.
