Commission To Discuss Outdoor Pool

Posted at 3:58 AM

The Merrill Parks and Recreation Commission will have the regular monthly meeting at 4:15 this afternoon. Discussion will continue on the future of a new outdoor swimming facility, currently 3-concepts and 2-locations are being considered, the locations are the MARC and Stanges Park. The MARC location is “good ground” for construction of the new outdoor pool and Water Park while the Stanges park location has serious concerns about flooding from the Prairie River. Parks and Rec. Director, Dan Wendorf said he hopes the Commission will pick a location for the pool at tonight’s meeting.

“Concept A” could host up to 550 people at once, but would cost taxpayers around 6 million dollars to be built at the MARC or an additional 1.1 million dollars to be constructed at the old pool location at Stanges Park. This concept has 11,200 square feet of water and features a 5,500 sq foot building, Leisure Pool, Slide Complex, Splash Pad, Drop Slide 3M Diving Board, 1M diving Board, (4) 75-yard Lap lanes, group rental area and Water play features.

The smaller “Concept B” would have a swimmer capacity of 250 people and would cost 3.6 million at the MARC and 4.2 million at Stanges. This concept has 5,000 square feet of water and features a 3,400 sq foot building, Leisure Pool, Slide Complex, Drop Slide 3M Diving Board, 1M diving Board, (1) 25-yard Lap lane and Water play features.

“Concept C” is a hybrid of the first 2-designs would have a 300 person capacity and cost 4.1 million if built at the MARC or just over 5 million at Stanges Park. This concept has 6,000 square feet of water and features a 4,000 sq foot building, Leisure Pool, Slide Complex, Drop Slide 3M Diving Board, 1M diving Board, (3) 25-yard Lap lanes, group rental area and Water play features.
