Drug Charges in Merrill Traffic Stop

Posted at 11:10 AM

Cassiopia Conlin and two men were charged
Tuesday after a Sunday traffic stop in Merrill.
Three people face a total of 28 criminal charges, after a routine traffic stop turned into a major drug bust in Merrill. Police said they stopped 23-year-old Cassiopia Conlin of Merrill late Monday night, because the license plates did not match the vehicle the three were in.

Officials said Conlin tried giving a false name, but the officer recognized her. And she and two passengers were arrested after a large amount of drugs were found by the officer and Wausau’s canine unit.

Conlin, 38-year-old Jimmie Joannon of Merrill, and 49-year-old Danny Hanson of Wausau appeared in Lincoln County Circuit Court Tuesday – and all are due back December sixth when a judge will decide whether to order trials. Conlin faces nine charges, Joannon 11, and Hanson eight. They include possessing meth-amphetamines, heroin, and L-S-D with the intent to sell them. Other charges include maintaining a drug trafficking house, marijuana possession, using paraphernalia to manufacture drugs, bail jumping, and not having the required state drug tax stamps. Bond was set at 20-thousand-dollars for Hanson, and 75-hundred dollars for the other two.

The Merrill Police Department Press Release:

On 11-25-12 at approximately 11:10 p.m. officers of the Merrill PD conducted a traffic stop with a vehicle bearing the wrong license plate associated with the operated vehicle. The driver of the vehicle initially produced a false name, but she was known to be Cassiopia Conlin (23) of Merrill. Conlin was known to have two warrants for her arrest and was subsequently taken into custody. A Wausau PD K-9 officer was requested to assist at the stop location and subsequently gave a positive identification of the presence of contraband inside the suspect vehicle. A search of the vehicle located multiple items involved with the use and distribution of drugs including a large amount of methamphetamine, heroin, and LSD. Some of these items were in the possession of the other vehicle occupants; Jimmie Joannon (38) of Merrill and Danny Hanson (49) of Wausau. The vehicle occupants were arrested at that time as well. The vehicle and items of contraband were seized and impounded.
