9 Counts Filed in Merrill Traffic Deaths

In the early morning hours of June 7, 2012 a single vehicle fatal crash occurred on S. Alexander St. in the City of Merrill, claiming the lives of Jessica Hartwig and Misty Glisch. The crash also severely injured the two other occupants of that vehicle. Pursuant to the crash investigation, the Wisconsin State Patrol Technical Reconstruction Unit was requested to provide assistance with the crash investigation and crash reconstruction process.

An intensive investigation, including a complete crash reconstruction, was recently completed and subsequently reviewed by the Lincoln County District Attorney’s Office and WI Attorney General’s Office. Based upon the evidence of this investigation, Ashley Baumann has been charged in Lincoln County Circuit Court with:

COUNT 1: HOMICIDE BY INTOXICATED USE OF A VEHICLE
COUNT 2: HOMICIDE BY INTOXICATED USE OF A VEHICLE
COUNT 3: HOMICIDE BY USE OF A VEHICLE WITH PROHIBITED ALCOHOL CONCENTRATION
COUNT 4: HOMICIDE BY USE OF A VEHICLE WITH PROHIBITED ALCOHOL CONCENTRATION
COUNT 5: HOMICIDE BY NEGLIGENT OPERATION OF A VEHICLE
COUNT 6: HOMICIDE BY NEGLIGENT OPERATION OF A VEHICLE
COUNT 7: CAUSING GREAT BODILY HARM BY INTOXICATED USE OF A VEHICLE
COUNT 8: CAUSING GREAT BODILY HARM BY USE OF A VEHICLE WITH PROHIBITED ALCOHOL CONCENTRATION
COUNT 9: RECKLESS DRIVING CAUSING GREAT BODILY HARM

Ashley Baumann has an initial court appearance date of November 5, 2012 in Lincoln County Circuit Court. Assistant Attorney General Tara Jenswold, acting as a special prosecutor, will assist the Lincoln County District Attorney’s Office with the prosecution of this case.
