Merrill Volleyball Today

Merrill Volleyball is in the State Tournament. The Lady Jay’s earn the honor by fighting past Marshfield Saturday night. Merrill is making its sixth appearance in the State Volleyball Tournament this Thursday, but its first since 1982 when the format was still pool play. The Bluejays return engagement to the tournament comes by virtue of a victory over Marshfield in the sectional final held at Wausau East. Merrill will play Muskego.

Muskego is making its fifth straight appearance at State and its eighth in the last nine years. This is the Warriors’ 12th appearance overall, which includes State championships in 2005 and 2009, and runner-up finishes in 2006 and 2010. They defeated Greenfield in the Greenfield sectional final to earn a berth in the State Quarterfinals.

The Quarterfinal game is at 4:30 on Thursday, November 1st. WJMT will have coverage starting at 4:15.

Merrill is joined at State by Tomahawk, who beat Barron in three games, 25-15, 25-21, 25-22 on Saturday night to advance to the State Tournament. Tomahawk faces Kettle Moraine Lutheran at 4 p.m. Friday in a Division 2 State Semi-final at the Resch Center in Green Bay.
