Their busy travel day will be made easier, thanks to the use of wheelchairs from Ministry Home Care Plus. “We have a vast stock of medical equipment,” stated Liz Sheahan, Manager of Communications & Development with Ministry Home Care. “We are proud to share them with these men and women who have served in our nation’s military.”
The Never Forgotten Honor Flight goal, stated on their web site, is simple: “To fly every World War II veteran (in our region) who is able and willing out to Washington to visit “their” memorial before all our veterans of that war pass away.”
This local effort is an affiliate of the national group Honor Flight Network, which held their first commercial flight out of Dayton, Ohio in 2006. Today, there are about 115 hubs around the country, working to bring veterans to Washington DC. Supported by many veterans’ organizations in the region, the local group has no paid staff. Volunteers organize the entire operation and work hard to secure donations to fund the flights for the veterans. For more information on the Wausau hub, visit www.neverforgottenhonorflight.org.
