The Merrill Area Public Schools have given preliminary layoff notices to five teachers. But the Board of Education noted that four will likely be called back.
Interim superintendent Bruce Anderson said the teachers include an art instructor, a literacy specialist, a music teacher, and grade-school instructor. All four could move to the Maple Grove Charter School or at least be offered part time positions within the district.
A reading specialist received a layoff notice because the position is funded by a federal grant which is expiring next year.
