The Merrill Fire Department responded to reported structure fire Sunday evening in the Town of Merrill. The 911 cell call alerted the Lincoln County Dispatch Center of the fire at W4436 County Road C. Merrill Fire and EMS units along with Lincoln County Sheriff got on scene to find a fire on the backside of the residence. Hose lines were stretched and an interior attack was made on the fire, limiting the damage.
The Merrill Fire Department requested a tanker from the Russell Fire Department for additional water support. Wisconsin Public Service was also on scene. The fire is believed to be caused by an outdoor wood burner that was next to the building, but the incident may be investigated further. No foul play is suspected. No one was injured at the fire. A fire engine remained on scene after the incident.
The Merrill Fire Department would like to remind home owners with wood burners to use caution even during this mild winter.
