The man who attempted an armed robbery in Wausau was apprehended Tuesday afternoon, less than a half hour after the incident occurred.
At about 1:40 p.m. Tuesday, a man walked into the Tower Credit Union on Bridge Street, showed a gun and demanded money. 52 year old David Samuelson was taken into custody without incident near the Wisconsin River. A credit union employee followed Samuelson as he left, which helped police narrow their search. Samuelson was shedding clothing as he fled and he was unarmed when arrested. Police are still searching for the weapon. Police are also looking for a possible getaway driver.
According to witnesses Samuelson shouted at the driver of a dark compact car to leave. The car was waiting with an open door. Court records show that Samuelson spent 15 years in jail following an armed robbery conviction in Brown County in 1994.
