City Looking To Sell Lincoln House

Posted at 5:20 AM

From the Merrill Committee of a Whole on Tuesday night; a decision on the demolition of the Lincoln House in Merrill has been delayed. Committee members instead want to sell the structure for one dollar, the buyer would have building demolished and then erect a new structure on the site. Any investor would have to submit a site plan for the property and that plan would be subject to approval by the Common Council. T

The Merrill common Council last night passed a resolution to authorize a Merrill Police Auxiliary; this would be comprised of non paid citizens. The Council decided to table an ordinance to allow only 15 minute parking in a section of downtown. No further action is expected on this ordinance, it was noted that any 15 minute parking zone would be almost impossible to enforce. The Common Council also approved a Class “B” (beer) license and a “Class B” (liquor) license for Club Modern, Stephen J. Blake, Agent.  Council Member Anne Caylor went on record that Club Modern has no immediate plans to open; the building is currently for sale. Since this is the only available liquor license, the owners wanted to keep it with the property.
