On January 22, 2013 at approximately 5:56 p.m., the Oneida County Sheriff's Office received information of a possible burglary on Neptune Lake Road in the Town of Monico. A concerned citizen was out for a walk on Neptune Lake Road when he observed a suspicious vehicle parked on the roadway. The citizen then could hear what appeared to be glass breaking at a nearby residence. The citizen was able to successfully obtain the license plate of the suspicious vehicle and subsequently relayed the information to law enforcement.
As a result of this information relayed to law enforcement, Sheriff Deputies investigated the complaint and ultimately discovered numerous burglaries that had occurred in the Town of Monico. The investigation revealed a total of nine burglaries involving eight different properties that had occurred from December 27, 2012 through January 22, 2013.
As a result of the investigation, Anthony M. Briggs, age 17 from Monico, and a 15 year old male juvenile were arrested for various crimes related to burglary, theft and criminal damage to property. The investigation is ongoing, and more arrests are expected as the investigation continues.
Sheriff Grady Hartman stated, "I appreciate the cooperation from the citizen that reported the suspicious activity in their neighborhood. This has greatly assisted the sheriff's office in apprehending those responsible."
On November 29, 2012, officers of the Oneida County Sheriff's Office investigated a series on nine residential burglaries on Acorn Lane and Clear Lake Road in the Town of Cassian. A business burglary was also reported in Town of Hazelhurst on November 30, 2012.
As a result of the ongoing investigations, 28 year old Peter J. Schultz, Jr. of Red Granite, Wisconsin was taken into custody on January 24, 2013. Schultz is currently being held in the Oneida County Jail on burglary related charges.
The Oneida County Sheriff's Office was assisted by the Waushara County Sheriff's Office, Green Lake County Sheriff's Office, Berlin Police Department, Red Granite Police Department and Princeton Police Department.
