Merrill Volleyball is in the State Tournament. The Lady Jay’s earn the honor by fighting past Marshfield Saturday night winning in 4-games; 23-25, 25-14, 25-21 and 25-21. Coach Stephanie Nelson said, “The girls have been working so hard all year, and the vast majority of the team has been playing together for the past three years. The previous two years we made it this far but got snuffed out. This year, we FINALLY got what we deserved and now we’re going to STATE!”
The Bluejays started the “Tourney Journey” ranked number two in the bracket, the numer 2 ranking was after the Lady Jays won the Wisconsin Valley Conference. Coach Nelson explained the number two ranking was perfect for the Bluejays. “People have been commenting to me all playoffs that they thought that we should be the one seed and why we aren’t the one seed. This is the way that I wanted it. I knew that we were a better team; more well rounded, but having the two seed actually puts us at an advantage.”
Merrill will play Muskego at 4:30 this Thursday in the Division One State Quarter-final at the Resch Center in Green Bay. Muskego is the number one seed advancing through the sectional 7 bracket with very little trouble. Muskego beat Franklin, Union Grove and Greenfield to make it to Thursday's showdown with the Bluejay’s.
Tomahawk beat Barron in three games, 25-15, 25-21, 25-22 on Saturday night to advance to the State Tournament. Tomahawk faces Kettle Moraine Lutheran at 4 p.m. Friday in a Division 2 State Semi-final at the Resch Center in Green Bay.
