After further consideration, the Merrill Parks and Rec. Department has opted to go back to the traditional route for the Merrill Labor Day Parade. The only exception will be that after staging at Merrill Man., the parade will exit on Genesee Street before reaching 1st St. and continuing on as in previous years.
PREVIOUS STORY ON WJMT:
Modifications were made to the parade route for the annual Labor Day Parade in Merrill.
Citing safety and convenience concerns, the Merrill Parks and Recreation Department announced that the staging for this year’s parade will still be at the Merrill manufacturing parking lot. However the route will begin on Genesee Street. This will allow normal traffic flow along State Street and any diverted vehicles to bypass Merrill easily.
The biggest change will be the elimination of turns on the route as the parade will stay on First Street all the way to Court Street. East Main Street will remain open to parking for the Labor Day festivities. The changes to the Parade route were a cooperative effort of the State of Wisconsin, Local Law enforcement and other Merrill City Departments.
