The recent “Bra’s Across the Bridge” promotion was a tremendous success and the organizers should be proud of their efforts. This promotion has created so many positives for the Merrill community and its members. First I want to congratulate everyone that was moved to share an opinion in support or opposition to “Bras Across the Bridge”. As a member of the media, I consider Freedom of Speech one of our most important rights as American Citizens.
I would also like to share a prospective I learned just the other week;
Support what you love, don’t bash what you hate.
I was on the street one Thursday afternoon discussing the bras promotion with a good friend and we stumbled on a spectacular idea to promote Relay for Life and help another worthy group in the Merrill community, The Citizens for Decency. Here’s the idea I would like to propose for the next relay for life.
“The Merrill Mid-Summer Whiteout”
The white ribbon is a sign of support for the Citizens for Decency whose mission is “To empower others to take a stand against pornography”. The Mid-summer Whiteout can sell white ribbons and place them in all of the supporting business in Merrill. I believe a community outpouring will whiteout most of the Merrill business district. This is another cause the Merrill community can support or oppose.
Now it’s up to you, can you support a cause you love without bashing something you hate? I will make an exception to this rule. I HATE CANCER!! And I will support any cause that bashes cancer from this earth.
