Lions Park No Longer Option for City Pool

The Merrill Parks and Recreation Commission will meet on Wednesday, November 6, 2013, at 4:15 p.m., at the Merrill City Hall. The agenda calls for continued discussion on parking lot issue at the MARC. The committee will consider a request for plaque to be placed at Normal Park recognizing Lincoln County School. And seek permission to explore idea of decorating gazebo with Christmas lights. The big topic at tonight’s meeting is the continued discussion on an outdoor pool location. During the September 4th Merrill Parks and Recreation Commission meeting there was further discussion on putting the new pool at Lions Park. Now it looks like hat won’t be an option. Parks and Rec director Dan Wendorf said after meeting with the Army Corp of Engineers and the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources, that the proposed site at Lions Park falls within the flood way and a permanent structure cannot be constructed.

Other proposed locations include Streeter Square and the MARC. Wendorf added that there are pro and cons to each proposed location, but that it is ultimately up to the commission and the Merrill Community to determine a new location. One committee member suggested a decision on the Merrill city pools new location is made by December so planning and fundraising could begin. Wendorf said it could take some time to come to a decision.
