How do you spell the sport of Track & Field”? C-O-N-T-R-O-V-E-R-S-Y…It’s in the sports genes... Nothing ever stops the suspicious at a World Championship Track Meet. This time in Berlin we have an 18 year old female runner who people believe might be a man. She burst on the scene and won the Women’s 800 meter run by 10 meters. Her voice is masculine yet she is a woman.. At least today she is until the testing comes back from the International Track committees.
This is not new to Track & Field.. that is controversy. In fact up until the Atlanta Olympics in 1996 women had to be tested to make sure they were really women. Eight athletes somewhat failed the test in Atlanta. They were not necessarily men but possessed an extraordinary amount of male hormones.
South African officials swear up and down that she is a girl. So do her ex roommates. So does her father. She is a girl more than likely, but possibly loaded up on performance enhancing substances. Why do these athletes do this stuff? To get an edge and to make money.
Even the great Jamacian sprinter Usain Bolt is under suspicion most of the time after his lowering of the world records in the 100 and 200 meters. This sport is so caught up in illegalities that nobody in it can have a clear conscience. From Ben Johnson to Marion Jones lies and drugs prevail.
There is no long term gain to taking drugs or cheating to get a world record. Everyone gets caught and does their time. Track & Field coaches and athletes have to come to their senses and play clean... Too much is at stake.. like the youth of the world..
